Dawn Hatfield

Dawn has been active as a composer, musician, and music educator in the East Coast of Canada since the 1990’s. Her varied musical interests have provided her with a broad spectrum of musical experiences. Dawn has received both an East Coast Music Award (1998) and a Juno Award (1999) as part of the Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra.
In addition to The Back Alley Big Band, Dawn presently performs with Maple Blues award winning Shirley Jackson and her Good Rockin’ Daddys, and The Upstream Ensemble. She has shared the stage with many legendary performers including The Temptations, Lionel Ritchie, Chris Calloway, Natalie Cole, and Leslie Gore. Dawn also performed with Frank MacKay and The R&B All Stars, and The Lincolns.
She has produced commissioned works for Upstream Music that have been performed by the Upstream Ensemble, The Upstream Quartet, Symphony Nova Scotia, and The Quasar Saxophone Quartet. She frequently freelances and records with other artists. Her own compositions reflect her wide range of musical interests.
